Intro

This guide will show you how to patch the Tumblr app on Android to remove a few annoying features, like dashboard ads (not blazed posts), the "ad-free" banner, pop-up reminders to enable notifications for blogs, the gift message popup, and automatic in-app updates.

The process involves downloading two extra apps—ReVanced Manager and AntiSplitM—plus the latest version of the Tumblr APK. You’ll use AntiSplitM (if necessary) to prepare the APK, then run it through ReVanced to apply the patches before installing it on your device. The whole process usually takes less than 10 minutes on my Samsung S21.

You’ll also need to enable installing apps from unknown sources. Since this varies by phone model and Android version, I recommend searching online for specific instructions.

Lastly, your phone's built-in file manager might look different from the one in the screenshots I provide. If you're using a Samsung device like mine, the file manager is straightforward and easy to navigate. If you have a different device, your file manager may be more complex, but the steps will be similar.

WARNING

There is no way this is not against ToS for the app. You're about as likely to be in trouble for using something like Xkit, which is to say not at all. I don't make any guarantees however.
You need to uninstall the app if you already have it installed. You can only bypass this if you're rooted, and you probably aren't if you're reading this.
I didn't create the tools involved, nor do I have any stake or association with them. They could be secretly malicious. I don't believe this is the case.
If you use Google to sign into your tumblr account, you'll need to use revanced microg in order to sign into your modded app. This is outside the scope of this guide, but feel free to ask for assistance.

Required Tools and Files

ReVanced Manager [Link]
This app allows you to patch the Tumblr APK. It’s the main tool you’ll use to apply the changes.
AntiSplitM [Link]
Sometimes APK files come in parts (split APKs), and you’ll need AntiSplitM to combine them into one file.
Tumblr APK [Link]
Note: Make sure you're downloading the correct version of the APK from a trusted website.
- If the file is an APK, you can skip Step 2.
- If the file is APKS, APKM, or any other variation, please follow the full guide.

Patching

Step One; Finding the APK.
This is site dependent, these are mobile screenshots of the process of downloading from APKMirror. If using a different source, ensure it is a TRUSTED source. Don't download random files off the internet and install them on your phone.

Step Two; AntiSplitM

Now that you have the Tumblr APK, it’s time to prepare it using AntiSplitM.

Follow these steps to merge the APK:

Open AntiSplitM
Launch the AntiSplitM app. You’ll see the landing page. Click Select split APK to Merge.
Select the Tumblr APK
When prompted, navigate to your Downloads folder (or wherever you saved the Tumblr APK) and select the file.
Choose Output Folder and Name
Select where to save the merged APK file. I recommend saving it in the same folder as the original APK for easier access. I've gone ahead and made my own APK folder to house these files.
Finalize the Patching Process
After selecting the output folder, AntiSplitM will start merging the files. You’ll see text output indicating progress. Once finished, a toast message and a terminal message will confirm that the file has been saved automatically.

Step Three; ReVanced

Once you've downloaded and merged the Tumblr APK, it’s time to patch it using ReVanced. When you open ReVanced for the first time, it will guide you through a quick setup. This setup is straightforward, and although we won’t cover it, feel free to ask for assistance.

Follow these steps to patch the APK:

Open ReVanced and Go to the Patcher Tab
On the landing page, navigate to the Patcher tab located at the bottom center of the screen. Then, click on Select an app.
Select Storage to Find the APK
Instead of choosing from the list of installed apps, tap on the Storage button at the bottom right to locate the APK you patched with AntiSplitM.
Locate and Select the Patched APK
Use your file manager to navigate to the location of the patched Tumblr APK. Select the APK file to proceed.
Review the Patcher Menu
You’ll see the patcher menu with the appropriate patches already selected. All you need to do is click the Patch button at the bottom right.
Finalizing the Patch
Once the patching process is complete, you’ll see a success message that includes “patched apk.” If you’d like to save it, click the disk icon at the bottom left, then hit the Install button at the bottom right to install the patched APK.
